DSF’s zoned mullite design in glass furnace regenerators has become standard in the industry as glassmakers have moved away from basic and silica refractories. Our typical recommendation has been refined over many years of product testing and evaluation to give the optimum solution.

DSF Mullite ML31 is a unique high fired material containing 70% alumina but converting to 97% crystalline mullite on firing giving stability and chemical resistance in service. This is used in the more critical regenerator applications such as target walls, division walls, regenerator crowns and upper walls. DSF Frisil H is a mullite brick derived from andalusite and high fired to give maximum conversion to mullite (90%), it can be used in most regenerator applications including regenerator mid and upper walls, the regenerator crown and transition tiles. DSF Frisil G is slightly lower alumina and is typically used in rider arch application, its balance of glassy phase to prevent alkali penetration and thermal shock resistance to withstand temperature swings offers a solution to inhibit degradation in this area. More recently DSF Frisil LP has been developed for rider arch and adaptor course application in response to cracking and premature failure in some regenerators. DSF Frisil LP has inherent low permeability to prevent penetration of sodium and sulphur compounds, which can ultimately lead to a reduction in thermal shock capability.

DSF supply back up materials for the melter including DSF CF40 cast subhearth bottom blocks with superior glass resistance, DSF Porolite 135 which is a high strength insulating material used in the bottom and sidewalls and DSF Composite 435, which is a combi-block for sidewall insulation. There is also a range of bonded AZS materials available. Chemcast CAZ20 has phenomenal thermal shock resistance and is used in replacement doghouse arches and burner blocks. DSF AZ20 and DSF AZ26 are pure alumina-zircon materials with good corrosion resistance.

In the forehearth and working end, DSF supply complex and profiled roof blocks in a range of materials to suit operating conditions. Chemcast Frisil H and Chemcast Frisil A1 have excellent creep resistance and good resistance to alkali vapour. In more arduous applications Chemcast Fused Mullite is used, a product with ultimate thermal shock and creep resistance. DSF G6 and DSF G7 were specifically developed for colourant forehearth applications, they have extremely low permeability which impedes degradation by colourant concentrates and their vapours. Forehearth burner blocks can be supplied, DSF also manufacture the forehearth subpaving. We supply to many forehearth designers worldwide, as well as directly to glassmakers and can assemble forehearths for pre-inspection before dispatch.
